Hurricane Delta Hours Away from Landfall

MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) – Hurricane Delta is weakening as it approaches the Louisiana Gulf Coast, but it still remains a dangerous storm. Storm surge is rising on the coast, winds are increasing, and rain is piling up.

Some possible local impacts include 1-3 inches of rain (concentrated in the western half of our area), a high risk for rip currents, blustery winds within bands, and isolated tornadoes. Coastal flooding will also be possible. Coastal flooding of 1-3 feet will be possible in coastal MS & AL while 1-2 feet of minor coastal flooding will be possible in NWFL, mainly during high tide cycles. There is also a Wind Advisory that begins at 10 PM tonight for the western half of our area. Winds will be sustained around 15-25 mph and gusts to 35 mph are expected. Timing on impacts looks to mainly be tonight through tomorrow. Saturday will be WEATHER AWARE days as there could be times of rough weather associated with Delta.

  • Storm Surge Potential

It is a good idea to review your high tides for Saturday. This is the time when the coastal flood threat will be highest.

By Sunday our weather will calm and we’ll be pretty seasonal and quieter into the early half of next week before a front likely brings fall weather back to the Gulf Coast by the middle of next week.

‘537 Votes’ revisits Florida election chaos in 2000 as a prelude to 2020

The timing of “537 Votes” isn’t subtle, focusing on election chaos and chicanery surrounding the 2000 Florida recount weeks before concerns about a repeat two decades later. The HBO documentary, however, provides a contextual, nuanced view — rooted in the controversy over Cuban boy Elian Gonzalez — while painting a colorful portrait of the ensuing…

‘Rebecca’ offers a pretty but uninspired remake of the Hitchcock classic

The scenery is spectacular in “Rebecca,” and that’s not even counting stars Lily James and Armie Hammer. Yet this faithful, pretty-but-uninspired adaptation of Daphne Du Maurier’s novel doesn’t breathe fresh life into the classic, much less eclipse the 1940 Laurence Olivier-Joan Fontaine version that garnered Alfred Hitchcock’s lone best-picture Oscar. Those years produced a lot…
