ELSA’S LATEST TRACK: Elsa weakens after making landfall Wednesday morning

MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) – Elsa has officially made landfall in Taylor County along the North Florida Gulf Coast around 11:00 AM EDT. Maximum winds were estimated at 65 mph at the time of landfall. As Elsa continues to move inland, we are seeing the storm weaken with winds now at 50 mph. It will likely continue to weaken as it moves up the East Coast, but we could see some re-strengthening towards the end of the week. No matter what, our neighborhood is not seeing any direct impacts.

The main impacts from Elsa will be felt on the western half of the Florida Peninsula and the East Coast. Rainfall amounts around 4-8 inches are possible with coastal areas experiencing a storm surge of 3-6 feet. The highest surge amounts are expected in Tampa Bay and along Florida’s Big Bend.

For our part of the Gulf Coast, wave activity will increase. We will also note a high risk for rip currents. You will likely see red flags flying at the coast.
